Introduction to Interprofessionalism (Online)
Exclusive Registration for Clinical Professions: Only Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy
Self-registration is not available. Students are directly enrolled by their college.
This 2-hour online IPE is specifically designed to enhance the understanding of professional roles and responsibilities, clinician scope of practice, and collaborative team behaviors among students and professionals in the fields of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy.
Teams of 5-7 students will have the opportunity to explore their own roles, educate other students about their profession, and learn how collaborative teamwork can promote positive patient outcomes.

This 2-hour online IPE is tailored for clinical professionsof medicine, nursing, and pharmacy and a unique learning opportunity. Teams of 5-7 students will be immersed in essential team skills like closed-loop communication, constructive intervention, knowledge sharing, re-evaluation, summarizing, and mutual respect, offering a rich learning experience.

Pain & Substance Misuse (Online)

The Pain & Substance Misuse IPE is a 2-hour online interprofessional event that introduces learners to pain and substance misuse. Students learn about risk reduction messages and resources, how to identify the relationship between trauma and substance use, how to respond an opioid overdose using naloxone, and work together in a team on a case. Students who attend this IPE, will also be invited to a more advance applied learning collaborative (2-hrs) to practice skills.
This IPE is open to any profession of student; enrolled at UA, ASU & NAU.

AZ Cannabis (Online)
Registration Deadline: October 7, 2024, 8:00 AM
Cannabis is Legal, Now What? This IPE is a 2-hour online introduction to Cannabis epidemiology, treatment, and safety recommendations in the context of legalization. In this activity, students will be introduced to information and invited to reflect on and discuss the implications that legalized cannabis: pubic health and epidemiology, clinical considerations, and communication during a team-based scenario. This event covers a range of fields, including medicine, pharmacy, public health, and social work, among others.
This IPE is open to any profession of student; enrolled at UA, ASU & NAU.

Weight Inclusive Health (Asynchronous)

This IPE is offered as a one-week asynchronous module, which explores concepts related to the public health issue of obesity within a weight-inclusive model. There is individual work, team discussions and a group project. The workload is approximately three hours over the week for this valuable learning experience.
This IPE is open to any profession of student; enrolled at UA, ASU & NAU.

This 3 hour in-person interprofessional event uses a simulation curriculum focused on common challenges, both practical and emotional, faced when working in resource-limited settings. Students from the colleges of medicine, pharmacy, nursing, and public health learn to demonstrate high standards of ethical conduct and quality of care in their contributions to team-based care.

This IPE is a 2-hour online interprofessional event that introduces learners to the opioid epidemic in Arizona and pain and substance misuse. Students learn about risk reduction messages and resources, how to identify the relationship between trauma and substance use, how to recognize signs of an opioid overdose, and how to respond to an opioid overdose using naloxone.
This IPE is open to all UA students.

Disabilities (Online)
Registration Closes: Feb. 17, 2025 – 8:00 AM
This IPE is a 2-hour online event that introduces students to important topics in the lives of people with disabilities. The case-based exercise teaches teams of 5-7 students the roles and functions of an interprofessional team in the delivery of patient-centered care for persons with disabilities.
Registration closes in mid-February, unless the IPE reaches capacity.

Clinical Tobacco Cessation (Asynchronous)
Registration Closes: March 3, 2025, 8:00 AM
At the Clinical Tobacco Cessation IPE, healthcare students acquire tobacco cessation skills, collaborate with other professions, and practice motivational interviewing to encourage and empower patients to break free from tobacco's hold. Participants will meet with their team and complete an assignment together during the week.
Registration is available for 20 students from each profession: Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy.

Climate & Health (In-person)

Climate and Health is limited registration for UA Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Public Health.
This is an in-person scenario-based event on the Tucson campus that focuses on climate challenges. Teams of 5-6 students will apply their expertise with that of team members to develop and propose their plan. Registration closes March 8th, unless it reaches capacity prior.

CTIPH Partner IPEs
In-person Lab Simulations in Tucson
Interprofessional education (IPE) plays an important role in completing a student's healthcare learning journey. ASTEC provides a variety of IPE simulations, all of which are available any UArizona Health Sciences student. These activities are all one-hour in length and held in the ASTEC lab in the Health Science Education Building. There are several simulations available, that will assess your strengths and weaknesses and team building skills. The simulations are held in a smaller setting, and spaces are limited.
In-person, credit-bearing IPE course
Health Sciences Design Core Courses are credit bearing courses that are open to any student on campus interested in exploring human-centered approaches to meeting health care needs. This is an interprofessional program that engages undergraduate, graduate and professional students in problem-solving for human health. The program offers a unique innovation space that includes advanced equipment and expert faculty and staff. Along with design thinking, courses allow students to explore ways to improve human health through human-centered and community-based practices, interprofessional collaboration, and the use of emerging research and technology.
